Make a difference in the life of someone with an intellectual disability

Become a Homesharer:

This program is designed to share your home and family life with an adult with an intellectual disability. There are many couples and individuals capable of providing the kind of warmth and support that such an individual would require.

Your family will be introduced to the individual at a convenient time. The person will move into your home as soon as everyone is comfortable. We hope that for many, the Homesharer will be on a long-term basis. For others, the Homesharer may act as a stepping-stone, or preparation to independent living in the community.

The Homesharer might also welcome a person with a disability into their homes for short periods of time. By providing respite to the natural family, host families offer new opportunities for these persons who visit.

All potential Homesharer applicants must go through a thorough assessment before being accepted into the program.

Am I Qualified?

The real qualifications needed are caring and a commitment to understanding the needs of people with an intellectual disability. A profile of your family is developed to help the Homeshare staff find an appropriate match for you, someone with similar interests and lifestyle.

* Liability insurance is provided by the Community Living while the person is training and up until the individual becomes a paid employee.
