Fostering
Friendships
“Fostering
Friendships”is a volunteer program
sponsored by Community Living,
Stormont County. The purpose of the
project is to recruit volunteers
throughout the county who would be
interested in becoming a mentor and
friend for someone with a
developmental disability.
Goals:
-
To support
individuals 18 ears of age or
older to broaden and expand
relationships with others in
their community.

To ensure that
people are secure and safe in
their communities by providing a
network of friends and
acquaintances.

To support
individuals to be active
participants in their community.

To build
inclusive and caring
communities.
Objectives:
- To support
individuals in their interests
and goals.

To support
individuals to broaden their
life experiences by introducing
and supporting individuals in
activities and events.

To provide
opportunities to learn new
skills.

To encourage the
development of a strong and
valued friendship between the
volunteer and the individual.

To provide
individuals with the opportunity
to share their strengths and
gifts with others so that they
can be recognized as valued
members of the community.

To support
citizenship. To model the
characteristics which promote
responsibility and community
involvement.
Goal Statement:
That all people
live in a state of dignity, share in
all elements of living in the
community and have the opportunity
to participate effectively.
Volunteer
Criteria:
Anyone with an
interest in becoming a volunteer is
invited to contact the Volunteer
Coordinator at Community Living,
Stormont County. Volunteers will be
introduced to an individual who
shares a common interest. If you
have a few hours to spare in your
month then this may be one of the
most fulfilling opportunities for
you and the individual you mentor.

Must
be 18 years or older
-
Must
be able to commit to a meeting
with the individual a minimum of
once per month.

At
the expense of the agency, be
willing to provide a Criminal
Reference Check
-
Must
provide two (2) references.
* Liability insurance is provided by
the Community Living while the
person is training and up until the
individual becomes a paid employee. |
