About Us
- History |
| |
Community Living-Stormont
County is a
charitable
non-profit
corporation governed
by a Board of eleven
Directors, and the
immediate Past
President, who are
elected at our
Annual General
Meeting in June of
each year.
Like most
Associations For
Community Living,
C.L.S.C. was founded
by parents who had
no services for
their sons and
daughters.
The agency had its
inaugural meeting on
November 12, 1958.
On May 1, 1959 the
parents started a
school with classes
being offered at the
Trinity Church Hall.
In August of 1961
the classes were
moved to the City
Recreational Centre.
By May 1962 a
Building Committee
began work to raise
money to open a
school. The Kinsmen
supported the
project and raised
$75,000. In April
1964 the Kinsmen
School was opened.
The first Ministry
funding was received
in 1965. The
Ministry of
Community and Social
Services funded 80 %
of the cost of
operating the
Kinsmen School.
Eventually, the
school came under
the Separate School
Board’s
jurisdiction.
That same year, the
first day program
was opened. It was
known as ARC
Industries.
Over the years, the
agency has evolved
and expanded
services. Today, the
C.L.S.C. employs 55
Full Time and 45
Part Time and Causal
staff. The operating
budget is
approximately 3.5
million dollars.
