Community Connection Services
assists challenged adults, 18 years
of age or older. The program helps
individuals to secure employment and
offers vocational support in the
community.
With the assistance
of a Support Worker, the person will
acquire the necessary vocational
skills to function independently or
as independently as possible for
most tasks in a particular job. Some
people may at times require guidance
from the employer or co-worker.
Various vocational approaches can be
made, such as, the individual may
choose to start with a variety of
work experiences in order to
identify their interest. Some may
decide to do volunteer work, while
others may want paid employment. The
Support Worker guides and assists
the person to develop the skills
needed to secure the vocational
setting of their choice. The Support
Worker remains on the work site with
the trainee until he/she is able to
complete the job independently. The
training period varies, depending on
the person’s abilities. The
individual will then go through a
gradual face out process. Once the
face out is complete, periodic
follow-ups are done to ensure the
success of the job placement. The
Support Worker remains available to
assist or retrain if necessary.
Being involved with
Community Connection Services gives
people the opportunity to be part of
a team, to learn new skills, to
build self-esteem and to develop new
relationships.
