| Making
Services Work For People |
| |
| The
most recent Ministry framework for
services for people who have
developmental challenges was
released in April of 1997. It was
entitled Making Services Work For
People.
Central features of this framework
include:
- Essential
supports must be available in
each local system of services,
and provided to those who need
them most. The requirement that
each local system of services
must provide essential supports
does not create entitlements to
services for specific
individuals.
- Essential
services are defined as: crisis
intervention, respite, in-home
supports, treatment, residential
supports in communities, and
adoption services for crown
wards.
- More
resources are invested in early
intervention supports
- More
resources are invested in
prevention supports
- A mechanism
that provides coordinated
information about available
services
- Fewer Access
Points
- A Case
Resolution Function
- A Single
Point Of Access for residential
services and supports
- Integrated or
coordinated assessments
(presence of a common tool to
collect basic information for
intake)
- Central
Administration costs to not
exceed the percentage set by
Ministry (10%)
Note:
The Collaborative Access responds to
the need for a Single Point Of
Access, allowing for the
geographical complexity of S.D.&G.
