Volunteer!
There are a number of ways you can
support people in your community --
provide one-to-one support and
friendship; help with special events
or weekly activities; apply your
professional skills to the work of a
committee or board of directors.
Youth -Youth Involvement Ontario
(YIO) is a volunteer group for
people who are 13 - 23 years of age
who are friends or relatives of
youths who are identified as having
an intellectual disability. Join the YIO group in your school or
community. If there isn't one --
start one!
Learn and Share - Even if you
can't volunteer your time, you can
still help.
Become informed about the issues
affecting people who are labeled as
having an intellectual disability
and tell your friends and family
what you have learned. Remember that
all people have the ability to be
good friends, neighbours and
employees. Encourage others to give
people a chance to demonstrate their
skills and abilities.
